About the Program

The Doctoral Studies Program of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering awards the Doctoral Degree (PhD), in accordance with the provisions of Law 4957/2022 (Government Gazette 861/12-3-2018).

The program aims to create scientists-researchers, capable of contributing to the promotion of research, technology and higher education in the field of Materials Science and Engineering in cutting-edge thematic areas, covering a wide field of research in soft matter, biomaterials, semiconductors, optoelectronic and magnetic materials. Materials scientists and engineers are increasingly focusing on testing atomic and mesoscopic structures to regulate the properties of materials. This pursuit has pushed the Materials sector to the forefront of developing and applying new tools and techniques for observing and manipulating matter on a very small scale.

Applying to the Doctoral Program

Anyone who holds a postgraduate degree awarded by a Higher Educational Institution (HEI) in Greece or abroad or is a graduate of an undergraduate degree program of a HEI in Greece or abroad, the successful completion of which leads to the award of a single and indivisible degree in accordance with article 78 of Law 4957/2022, has the right to apply for registration in the doctoral studies program.

The right to apply for a doctoral thesis is granted to holders of a Diploma of Postgraduate Studies (MSc) from a higher education institution in Greece or a recognized equivalent degree from a foreign country or an integrated postgraduate degree (Integrated Master).

Tuition fees: Doctoral studies at the Department are offered free of charge.
